En Prise (2023)
(In the Grip)
Oil on canvas, 200 x 200 cm
"En Prise" (In Grip) is a continuation of "Réminiscence Atavique de la Guerre d'Espagne" (Atavistic Reminiscence of Spanish Civil War)
and "Dolores Callipyge" (Callipygian Dolores),
The continuation of the intimate exploration of a confused and chaotic feeling linked to my ancestral origins
and my quest for personal identity, which is revealed through the unexpected emergence of
dreamlike visions that I attempt to capture on canvas.
In a warm dominant tone, I am the counterweight of an organic pendulum
drawing a giant beating heart, encircled by arteries stretched like ropes, the body arched like the figurehead of a ghost ship.
Something has crystallized: the shadow of the "hombres," present behind me in the two previous paintings, has taken on a face here, a red, strange, almost feline face that looks at you
and dissolves into vibratory movements forming the outline of a predatory profile that turns towards me.
As in "Reminiscence…" I do not fight.
My head tilting back in the movement,
I seem to have surrendered fearlessly to the situation .
